The Social Security Administration is scheduled to issue its final regular Social Security payment for July 2026 on Wednesday, July 22. The distribution primarily covers retirement, survivor and Social Security Disability Insurance beneficiaries whose birthdays fall from the 21st through the 31st of any month. For most recipients, the birthday-based calendar applies when benefits began on or after May 1, 1997, according to the Social Security Administration.
The date matters because Social Security payments are staggered across the month. A recipient’s benefit type, claim history and the earnings record on which the benefit is based can place that person on a different payment date.

ToggleWho Is Included in the July 22 Payment?
Under the agency’s official 2026 payment calendar, beneficiaries born from the 1st through the 10th were paid on July 8, while those born from the 11th through the 20th were paid on July 15. The fourth-Wednesday group, covering birthdays from the 21st through the end of the month, is due on July 22.
For a spouse, child or survivor receiving benefits on another worker’s earnings record, the relevant birthday is generally the birthday of the worker whose record establishes entitlement. The agency’s payment timing guidance helps explain why a recipient’s scheduled date may not match their own birthday.
The payment arriving in July represents the benefit due for June. Most federal benefit payments are delivered electronically through direct deposit or another approved payment method, as explained in an overview of the payment schedule.
Latest Verified Schedule Remains Unchanged
As of Monday, July 20, the Social Security Administration’s published benefits calendar continues to list July 22 as the fourth-Wednesday payment date. July 22 is not affected by a weekend or federal holiday, so the agency’s normal early-payment rule does not apply.
The July 22 distribution does not include every Social Security beneficiary. People who began receiving benefits before May 1, 1997, as well as many recipients who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, generally follow the third-of-the-month schedule.
Other exceptions can apply to beneficiaries living abroad, people whose Medicare premiums are paid by a state and certain recipients assigned to the third-day schedule under Social Security rules.
How Much Could Recipients Receive?
Payment amounts are individualized and depend on lifetime earnings, claiming age, benefit category and deductions such as Medicare premiums.
The Social Security Administration’s June 2026 statistical snapshot put the average monthly retirement benefit at $2,029.92. The average was $1,496.16 for Disability Insurance benefits and $1,631.39 for survivor benefits.
Those figures are averages rather than guaranteed July payment amounts. Social Security and SSI benefits increased by 2.8 percent in 2026 under the annual cost-of-living adjustment. The increase applied to nearly 71 million Social Security beneficiaries beginning in January.
What Happens After July 22?
The next major payment date on the agency calendar is Friday, July 31, when the August Supplemental Security Income payment is scheduled to arrive early because August 1 falls on a Saturday. It is an advance payment for August rather than an additional July benefit.
Regular August Social Security payments are scheduled for August 3 for the third-of-the-month group, followed by August 12, August 19 and August 26 for the three birthday-based groups.
Recipients who do not see an electronic payment on the scheduled date should first contact their bank or financial institution. If the payment remains missing, the agency’s missing payment instructions direct beneficiaries to call 1-800-772-1213 or contact a local Social Security office.
The July 22 payment closes the month’s birthday-based Social Security schedule. Beneficiaries who are uncertain about their date should check the work record connected to their claim and review their individual payment schedule through their Social Security account.
