This case was filed on behalf of a transgender man denied a hysterectomy at a Catholic hospital. The California state intermediate appellate court rejected free exercise of religion, freedom of expression, and freedom of association defenses raised by the hospital.

The plaintiff’s legal team filed a petition to the US Supreme Court requesting a Writ of Certoriari on March 13, 2020.

On November 1, 2021, the Supreme Court declined to hear the case, allowing Evan Minton to proceed with his lawsuit against the hospital.
