WASHINGTON, D.C. – This morning, Freedom For All Americans Incoming CEO and National Campaign Director Kasey Suffredini released the following statement on last night’s election in Virginia:

“Yesterday, Virginia voters elected into office a majority of candidates who support nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ Virginians. Voters from both parties in Virginia strongly support these protections, and we’re thrilled that Virginians voted for candidates who understand the need to finally update state law and make discrimination against LGBTQ Virginians illegal. We look forward to continuing to work alongside Equality Virginia to urge state’s lawmakers to pass these crucial protections for LGBTQ Virginians in employment, housing, and public spaces, and to make this a top priority during the next legislative session. All Virginians should be able to live, work, and access basic services free from discrimination and harassment, and the time to update these laws to protect all LGBTQ Virginians is now.

Freedom for All Americans is the bipartisan campaign to secure full nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people nationwide. Our work brings together Republicans and Democrats, businesses large and small, people of faith, and allies from all walks of life to make the case for comprehensive nondiscrimination protections that ensure everyone is treated fairly and equally.
