Washington, D.C. – This morning, Freedom for All Americans CEO and NationalCampaign Director Kasey Suffredini released the following statement regarding the introduction of HR 5331 theFairness for All Act:

“Freedom for All Americans is committed to securing comprehensive, enduring nondiscrimination protections for all LGBTQ Americans. Right now, nearly seven million LGBTQ people live in one of the 30 states that lack laws explicitly protecting them from discrimination in critical areas of daily life, such as housing, employment, and public places.

“Today, with the introduction of theFairness for All Act, conservative and religious leaders that in the past may have denied the prevalence of anti-LGBTQ discrimination and opposed LGBTQ protections have publicly recognized that discrimination is real and that protections are needed. This is a pivotal moment in our community’s 50-year campaign for nationwide nondiscrimination protections, and it is proof that our efforts are succeeding.

“Today’s bill introduction is also evidence that people from all walks of life support treating their LGBTQ friends, family members, and neighbors with dignity and respect. This is essential to our legislative success in a two-party system, as well as to the transformational social and cultural change we seek. We welcome all fair-minded Americans of good faith to join the national effort demonstrating that America is ready for nationwide protections, and we look forward to working with all supporters of fairness to ensure passage of the strongest and most enduring legislation possible, which guarantees express nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people from all walks of life, in all areas of life.”

Freedom for All Americans is the bipartisan campaign to secure full nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people nationwide. Our work brings together Republicans and Democrats, businesses large and small, people of faith, and allies from all walks of life to make the case for comprehensive nondiscrimination protections that ensure everyone is treated fairly and equally.

FFAA is a longstanding member of a coalition of hundreds of organizations endorsing the Equality Act, which would update federal law to include express and enduring nondiscrimination protections for Americans based on sexual orientation and gender identity across virtually every area of daily life. The Equality Act passed for the first time in a chamber of Congress earlier this year, with a bipartisan victory in the U.S. House of Representatives.
