Freedom for All Americans Executive Director Matt McTighe said today:

“Business leaders across the state are united in their belief that in order for Tennessee to prosper, it must stop any discriminatory legislation from becoming law. In the last year, we have seen how discriminatory laws targeting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans have had devastating economic consequences.”

In 2016, more than 200 pieces of legislation were introduced targeting LGBT individuals for discrimination in legislatures across the nation. While many were stopped, several became law. North Carolina’s infamous anti-LGBT law, HB 2, has cost that state’s economy an estimated $630 million in business, conventions, sporting events, concerts, tourism and more. The law has also cost North Carolina thousands of jobs.

Tennessee Thrives supporters do not want to see their state suffer the same fate as North Carolina.

Ken Lowe, Chairman, President and CEO of Scripps Network Interactive, said today:

“Discrimination against anyone on the basis of their gender, race or sexuality runs entirely contrary to the core values on which Scripps Networks Interactive was founded. We rely on a pool of talent with diverse perspectives, broad experiences and varied backgrounds in order to create the world-class lifestyle content our viewers enjoy across all our networks. The work of Tennessee Thrives not only complements our corporate values but also aligns with a shared desire to invest in and commit to a state that embraces a diverse community.”

Scripps Network Interactive, Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp, CMT (Country Music Television), Louisiana-Pacific Corporation, and many more have signed onto the Tennessee Thrives pledge. A complete list of businesses that have signed the Tennessee Thrives petition can be found HERE.

McTighe continued: “Freedom for All Americans is proud to be a leading partner with Tennessee Thrives. We hope many more businesses will show their support for an open and inclusive Tennessee by signing the Tennessee Thrives pledge.”

Businesses that would like to sign the Tennessee Thrives pledge can do so here.
